KRC 10 Year Gem Winner

Barbara Samuel's Dog Heart

November 2017

I love to read, and I love supporting charities. I adore romances where the hero is oh-so-in-love with his heroine, or the hero and heroine are best friends. Dog Heart did it all.

Back in 2011, I had heard of a charity anothology SEAL of my Dreams which ended up being a 2012 KRC Gem. There were several great stories, but for me, Dog Heart stood above the others.

Marcus and Jessie, best friends who had planned a future together, but it had ended bitterly when Marcus followed his calling to be a SEAL.

Marcus, a hero still oh-so-in-love with Jessie.

Thor, a German Shepherd suffering from PTSD, and the impetus to bringing these two back together again.

When I notified Ms Samuel that I was awarding

Dog Heart a 10 year Gem, I asked her for some background behind why she wrote this story. She answered "the reason I wrote the story was because I live in a military town, and the news kept running stories about these dogs. They broke my heart." This romance is a heartbreaker, but also a romance of healing.

She has also offered a set of her Red Creek series in ebook format to one winner. Just be a member of my newsletter by Nov 30 to be eligible. Winner to be pulled Dec 1 or later. Restrictions apply.

Although the anthology is no longer available. Dog Heart is available on its own.

Below is my review.

Dog Heart

By Barbara Samuel

Contemporary Romance

Jessie had never wanted to see Marcus Stone again, but he'd called with the only reason she would agree. Staff Sergeant Thor. A German shepherd who had been injured in the same battle where his handler had died. Thor was suffering from PTSD, and Marcus had asked her to help work with Thor.

Marcus had never stopped loving Jess. The pain of seeing her was no greater than the pain of their separation. But she had given him an ultimatum. Military or her. He couldn't not be a SEAL, but losing her was an injury he would never completely heal from.

Dog Heart is one of the best short romances I've ever read. There is so much pain between each of these individuals. Jess and Marcus love one another, but Jess felt betrayed that he had become a SEAL. Marcus had needed to serve, and still ached that Jess couldn't accept him doing that. Then there was poor Thor. Luckily, he had Marcus dedicated to doing his best to heal him, emotionally and physically. And it is only together that they can all become whole.

Welcome

I truly enjoy sharing my love of reading. This site was started to allow me to share some of my favorite books. I hope that if you look around and find that you agree with some of my selections (see my reviews), that you will return and hopefully find new authors. I plan on having periodic "Recommended Reads" lists that will include books I recommend, as well as suggestions by visitors to this site. I will also keep you up-to-date on different upcoming events, special offers, etc.

As you look around, I'm still learning my way around HTML, etc. If you see any errors, typos, please e-mail me.

My Personal Disclaimer

Boy Meets Girl, They Fall in Love, and the two of them live Happily Ever After. This is the content for any book I believe is a true Romance Genre novel. The books that I recommend, or have reviews posted for will follow that format, unless I note otherwise. Granted we may know the outcome of a Romance Genre Novel, but it is the journey the characters take that is the reason we read these books. The Happily Ever After doesn't mean they're all vampires... Just means that the future is open to them, even if it is set 500 years in the past - we don't need to know their final chapter in life. At times I have have Recommend Reads by visitors to this site - I cannot guarantee that they meet my criteria for a Romance Genre Novel.
