A Knotty Tail

Short Story in Tails of Love Anthology

By Stella Cameron

Berkley Sensation - June 2009

Contemporary Romance

Ten authors coming together and providing short stories for an anthology. Ten short stories with both romance and animals. Tails of Love is an anthology by authors united together with their love of animals in support of an animal shelter.

Clawdia had a plan, and she would deign to speak to those animals next door to help her. Her person seemed to have a certain fondness for his neighbor, Rose Gibb. She would use her natural cunning instincts, and Rose's two dogs, to accomplish this endeavor.

Rose had adopted both Dickens and Madeleine, although she had never had a pet before. Now she was the owner of two dogs to be both companions, and a little protection. She lived in a remote area with only Simon Falzone as a neighbor.

Simon was attracted to his neighbor, but every conversation starter he had seemed to end with one word answers. He had moved to the area to concentrate on work, but he only seemed to succeed at concentrating on Rose. He needed help.

Luckily he had his cat, Clawdia, who had decided to accept the challenge.

A Knotty Tail was an enjoyable tale of a cat and two dogs helping their people come together. The interaction between the animals made me laugh aloud. Although I wish there had been a little more focus on the humans in the story, I found this to be a fun and exciting read.

Included in Tails of Love are: Man's Best Friend by Lori Foster, A Knotty Tail by Stella Cameron, Norah's Arc by Kate Angell, The Pursuit of Happiness by Dianne Castell, Atticus Saves Lisa by Ann Christopher, Rescue Me by Marcia James, Lord Hairy by Donna MacMeans, Danny's Dog by Sarah McCarty, Scaredy Cat by Patricia Sargeant, and A Man, A Woman, and Haggis by Sue-Ellen Welfonder.
