Midnight Pleasures With a Scoundrel

The Scoundrels of St. James Series - Book 4

By Lorraine Heath

Avon - November 2009

Historical Romance

He had been one of the younger boys in the group. Not a great pickpocket, and often the one to report who a true culprit was. He was part of a close knit group brought up on the wrong side of the law and raised in squalor. Now, they were part of the elite. One had a title. One was very rich and influential. He was an inspector for Scotland Yard. Regardless of whatever changes happened in their lives, they all stood beside one another, even if it was to do what was right, which may not always follow the law.

James Swindler had learned the hard way that justice was not always served. He was a devoted servant to his country, but he and his friends had "helped" justice one way or another. His current assignment was to follow a woman who it was suspected might try to kill someone. He was to follow her and determine if this was true. James was one of the best agents, and believed this was a misuse of his abilities. He decides to court the lady, entertain her, and hope that she will grow to trust him.

What ultimately happens surprises everyone.

Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel was simply quite shocking. Lorraine Heath has established herself as an author who writes intense emotional romances with poignant backstories - this one had a twist that was completely unexpected. I had adored James, who had thought he was in love with Frannie, who had found her own love. It was wonderful watching him fall in love. I eagerly anticipate the last story of this series.
