Illusion

The Chronicles of Nick - Book 5

By Sherrilyn Kenyon

St. Martin's - April 2014

The Chronicles of Nick begins with Nick at the age of 14, and shows his introduction to the world of the Dark Hunters. It completely stands on its own as a young adult series. However, as a reader, if you are reading the Dark Hunter series, there are spoilers in this book that are revealed at a later age of Nick. As such, you might consider reading the Dark Hunter series through at least Acheron before reading Book 1, Infinity. If you choose to read all of the books in this world in chronological order, which includes Dark Hunter, Dream Hunter and Chronicles of Nick, then read through Bad Moon Rising before Infinity, then read through No Mercy before Invincible. Then read through The Guardian before Infamous, then Time Untime before Inferno, and finally Styxx before Illusion.

It would only happen to Nick. One minute he was living his probably ultimate evil destined life, and the next, he was in a mixed up variation of the normal life he might have thought he'd wanted. That was before Ash, Simi, Caleb, and the cast of everyday demons and, well, others were, just - well normal. It was just too weird.

Even weirder was not being able to break free of this new nightmare, not knowing who exactly was friend, and who was enemy. It was enough to make that ultimate evil destiny, one he fervently hoped could still be changed, be the normalcy he desperately wished to return to.

Illusion was an alternate reality from page one. Friends, foe. Family, other. Who knew what was what. Apparently Nick didn't, because he was as apt to stumble through this world as he was his own. Illusion was an interesting twist on what could have been, if things were different. But Nick knows things aren't different. He is the Malachai - and he is still hunted. Now without his powers or any idea of what truly is safe harbor. It was enjoyable as always to watch Nick face challenges. But in Illusion, it was even more interesting to finally learn a few more tidbits of information that hopefully will prove capable of pulling Nick from following his own future footsteps, and lead a new path into a different destiny.
