Born of Fire

The League Series - Book 2

By Sherrilyn Kenyon

St. Martin's - November 2009

This review assumes that the reader has read Born of Night. It is set during and after that story. Both stories were originally not published as a series. They have been rewritten for this publication. However, it is important to note that Sherrilyn Kenyon herself has mentioned at the beginning of the book that in the rewriting, while trying to combine the stories into a series, there are some differences.

Syn had tried to erase his past. His bloodline was notorious, and there had been little good from those years. Now, he worked with a team who monitored the law. He had been trained by the best to be an assassin. He couldn't allow anyone near. There were few he called friends. Fewer he would trust with the truth of his past.

Shahara Dagan had always taken care of her family. Unfortunately, they didn't always take care of themselves, and she was left to pick up the pieces. She needed a quick large payment, and there was only one bounty that would pay what she needed. She was a bounty hunter, one of the best. She would bring in Syn.

What she didn't know was Syn's connections to her family. She also wasn't aware that the bounty was based on false charges. She had the ability to completely destroy Syn, but the more she learned about him, the more she wanted to protect him, as few had ever done before. And love him as none other ever could.

Sherrilyn Kenyon continues her League series by delivering Born of Fire, a story filled with action, adventure, romance and betrayal. I had adored Syn from the first moment he was introduced in Born of Night and knew only a very special woman would be good enough for him. Shahara was just that woman. Born of Fire made me smile, rage, tense and sigh. It was a thrilling read in a world I am most eager to revisit.
